DUI Offenses

What is DUI law?

Driving Under the Influence (DUI) refers to operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both. In most jurisdictions, DUI laws apply when a driver’s blood alcohol content (BAC) exceeds the legal limit of 0.08%. However, impairment can also result from the use of prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, or illegal substances, even if the BAC is below the legal threshold.

A DUI conviction can have life-altering consequences, including, but not limited to:

- License suspension or revocation;
- Fines and court fees;
- Jail time or probation;
- Increased insurance rates; and
- A criminal record.
